It has apparently been a very long time since I used this blog. That’s what blogs are for though right? You start them, write a bunch of stuff then forget about them for another year? That’s what they’ve always been for me anyway.
But, it’s 2020. A not-so-new year, a new decade. Time for a refresh. My website and portfolio was well overdue an update, so what better time to rework it than while the whole world is on hold.
What have you been doing for the last year, Steve?
Well I’m glad you asked, me. I’ve been working on lots of different projects, some of which I’ve included in my updated showreel:
That’s kept me busy enough anyway. I’ve also been working on my music in the background, which has taken up a large part of my spare time. But with another major project put to bed, it was time to come back to this.
Previously I’d been running this blog on one website, and my freelance services on another. I have plans to expand what services I provide, so it started to make sense to incorporate the two sites into one. And hence, here we are with the new website.
Well, the website itself isn’t actually finished. It’s just at a point where it’s usable, which is enough for now. In fact, it’s been quite a learning journey in itself. I’ve had a few goes at building WordPress themes and implementing different elements into it, and this was definitely a learning-on-the-job process. I’m not entirely sure it’s exactly what I wanted, but for now it’s working and I daren’t do anything else to it for fear of breaking everything.
As before, I want to use this blog as a showcase for personal projects, learning journeys and general reflection on creativity, careers and everything around it. I have a couple of projects in mind that I want to get to work on, including;
- A couple of ideas for games
- An interactive audio/visual experience
- A productivity app
- More experiments in generative/procedural art and motion
- More things away from the screen; namely sketching, maybe some photography too
Ciao for now!
